"Trauma is everywhere.
But healing, hope, and resilience are everywhere too.
.
Paying attention to one actually helps us see the other." Hillary L.McBride
.
"The only reason worth entering the pain is the hope that somehow it can be transformed, that through it we will learn to love better and will know more joy." Dan Allender

What is Narrative-focused Trauma Care?
.
"NFTC is designed to equip you to engage the effects of trauma with wisdom and compassion. You will receive rich teaching that explores trauma, identity, shame attachment, and family of origin-
.
integrating psychological insight with a theological understanding of God's redeeming work in our lives.
.
But what makes this training truly transformative is your small, facilitator-led story-group.
.
These groups are where concepts become personal. It's where you begin to see how your own story connects to the kind of healing and care you want to offer to others.
.
Because at the Allender Center, we believe that you can't guide others where you haven't gone yourself."
- The Allender Center, Rachel Clinton Chen

Self-condemnation. It was my main course. Throw in a side of shame, add some disappointment for dessert, and you have the full meal deal.
.
I felt stuck. Frustrated with myself for resorting to the same futile patterns.
.
Self-condemnation sounded a lot like this: If only I was more patient. I need to pray more. I need to read my Bible more. I need to be a better wife, a better mom, a better friend. Try harder. Get it right. What's wrong with me? Be more like ______. I'm ruining my kids. I'm too lazy.
.
When I understood that there was a reason, a story, behind every single one of my reactions, I was able to name the deeper feelings that were fueling my emotions, and it took away some of its power.
.
Don't get me wrong. This is ongoing! I'm in process. Growing. Becoming more kind to myself. Slowing down. Making sense of what I'm feeling in the moment. Rewiring my default. Being restored.

This is what Narrative Focused Trauma Care is. .

This is what Narrative Focused Trauma Care is.
.
There are pages in my story that seem to have a black smudge across them. Chapters I would have rather ripped out, removed entirely.
.
There came a point where I was more afraid of living in the same hindered existence than I was of revisiting those parts of myself.
.
Part of Story-work is about revisiting those formative experiences and allowing yourself to receive now, what you needed in that moment past.
.
A voice to speak up.
.
Compassion and empathy.
.
Someone to feel rage on your behalf.
.
Space for grief.
.
Someone to see you.

This September I am participating in the Narrative Focused Trauma Care training with the Allender Center!
.
This program dives deep into trauma and healing through a biblical perspective, incorporating neuroscience, psychology, and somatic therapy.
.
The Allender Center strives to join inner healing, prayer and a deeper relationship with Jesus, with the benefits of understanding how our brain and body respond to trauma and stress.
.
If this is something that interests you, stick around, check out the new simplyrestored.ca or sign up for the newsletter in my bio.
